Reopening of the Mercado de San Miguel after conservation works

On February 26, 2026, we experienced a very special moment for everyone who is part of the Mercado de San Miguel. After almost two months of work focused on the conservation and maintenance of the building’s structure, the market reopened its doors in an institutional event that marked the beginning of a new stage for this iconic gastronomic landmark in Madrid.

The reopening was attended by several authorities and institutional representatives, including Engracia Hidalgo, Delegate for the Area of Economy, Innovation and Finance at the Madrid City Council, Carlos Segura, Councillor for the Centro District of the Madrid City Council, and Héctor Coronel, Director of Tourism for the Madrid City Council.

During the institutional ceremony, Engracia Hidalgo, Carlos Segura and Israel Casanova, Country Head for Spain and Portugal at Redevco, the company that owns the building, performed the traditional ribbon-cutting ceremony, symbolizing the official reopening of the market following the completion of the conservation works.

After the ceremony, the authorities and representatives from the different organizations took a tour of the market, where the main works carried out to preserve and maintain the historic structure of the building were explained. The visit was also attended by several media outlets covering the event.

Following the tour, guests enjoyed a celebratory cocktail hosted at one of the market’s stalls.

The cocktail featured a selection of some of the market’s most representative products, highlighting the gastronomic quality and culinary diversity that make Mercado de San Miguel unique and one of the most emblematic gastronomic destinations in the city.

With this reopening, the market reaffirms its commitment to preserving its historic heritage and to continuing as a gastronomic and cultural landmark in the heart of Madrid.
