Mexico brings its flavours to Mercado de San Miguel in a day of cultural exchange and tribute

On 29 October, Mercado de San Miguel hosted a special event dedicated to Mexico, with the presence of Henry Valdivia, Consul of Mexico in Spain, celebrating Mexican gastronomy and culture.

In collaboration with the Mexican Embassy, the Market also hosted a traditional Day of the Dead Altar (Altar de Muertos),  one of Mexico’s most iconic cultural expressions, offering visitors the opportunity to discover and experience this celebration, deeply rooted in Mexican traditions.

The event began with welcoming remarks from the Consular representative and the Market, who took the opportunity to pay tribute to the victims and those injured in the railway accident in Urda (Toledo). A moment of remembrance and solidarity that highlighted the importance of standing together and showing support during such difficult times.

Following this heartfelt tribute, visitors had the opportunity to discover some of Mexico’s most representative flavours through a tasting of iconic products from its gastronomy. Tajín, a variety of Mexican sauces, beans and mezcals, among other products, offered a glimpse into the richness, diversity and distinctive character of one of the world’s most internationally recognised cuisines.

A day that transformed Mercado de San Miguel into a meeting point for different cultures, highlighting gastronomy as a way to share traditions, bring countries closer together and create memorable experiences.
